Making the Most of Your Bedroom Closet Space

Making the Most of Your Bedroom Closet Space

Keeping your bedroom neat, clean, and clutter-free is important, as it is where you the most time for rest and relaxation. A clean bedroom includes an organized closet. The challenge is that bedroom closets are extremely hard to keep under control because they are in constant use with items coming in and out regularly.

So, here are a few tips to help you keep your closet more organized, so you can enjoy a more relaxing environment when you are getting ready in the morning:

  1. 1.       Discard every item you no longer use. Most of us hate this process. It’s never fun to get rid of things you have spent your money on, especially if they have sentimental value. However, this a very important step to making sure that your bedroom closet stays organized. Go through all your clothes and decide what you are going to keep, give away, or just throw away.
  2. 2.       Sort by type or by season. All dress pants, dresses, jeans, etc. should be grouped together. You can also sort your clothes by color to make finding things easier. Place your most-used items in the most accessible area of your closet, so you don’t have to rummage through your least-used items to find them.
  3. 3.       Put away out-of-season clothes. There’s no reason to have all of your heavy winter clothes hanging on your clothes racks or taking up shelving in your closet in the middle of summer. Put them inside storage bins or garment bags and place them under your bed or in your basement. Be certain to protect your wool items from moths by filling old socks or nylons with cedar chips and placing them in the containers as well.
  4. 4.       Leave at least 20-30% of your closet clear. This will allow space for new things you want to buy and will make it easier to find them once you do.
