Two of the most awaited seasons of the year are here! Spring and summer are many peoples’ favorite seasons because of the good weather and the chance to do more activities outside. Once outdoor activities begin to increase, there also becomes a need for help in making sure that public parks are well-maintained and supervised.
To increase its manpower during the peak seasons, the Oklahoma City Parks Department is offering part-time employment for seasonal jobs, such as lifeguards, recreation leaders, and ground maintenance workers.
Those who are interested in becoming a lifeguard will be assigned to the City’s pools and aquatic centers. Training will be available for a cost of $35 per person at the Foster Indoor Pool. Applicants must pass a qualifying test and be at least 15 years of age and 16 by the end of their training.
Recreation leaders will be assigned to supervise kids during summer programs held at the parks. They will help with games, sports, field trips, and art activities. The activities are normally scheduled on Mondays through Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Applicants must be at least 16 years old with reliable transportation to and from work.
Park maintenance is crucial, and the department is looking to immediately hire ground maintenance crews. No prior experience is necessary. Applicants will be assigned to parks and public areas and will mow lawns, trim bushes, and pick up litter.
Having a leaky roof is every homeowner’s nightmare, as it can cause major damage to your property and reduce the value of your home. A leaky roof is one of the most time-consuming and frustrating home repairs to address because it is often difficult to find the problem. Identifying where the roof is leaking is not always easy, and even once you find it, it can be difficult to proceed. Most people automatically hire a professional for roof repairs; however, the downfall is that you will spend more money on the project as a result.
There are often simple ways to solve larger problems on your own by using a few common household materials in innovative ways. The first thing you need to do is to find the source of the leak and determine the exact cause of it. You can crawl into your attic to locate the source of a leak and then apply a temporary, emergency patch of prepared leak sealant to stop the water. Leak sealants are available at hardware stores in cans that can be applied using a putty knife or in tubes that can be applied with a putty gun.
Make sure your roof’s valleys, gutters, and downspouts are clear of debris and allow water to move freely off the roof and away from your house. Remove any blockages and clear the downspouts if they are clogged. You can remove the downspout from the gutter and clear it by using long object, such as broom handle, to push the debris out of the pipe. Reattach the downspout to the gutter and direct the water away from the foundation.
Roof flashing is another option to repair a roof leak. Simply apply bitumen to seal the holes if you find any loose nails on your roof. You can use roof flashing to patch any signs of corrosion holes that are up to about 2 cm wide. Cut a piece from the roof flashing that is larger than the hole, roughen up the surface, so the bitumen will stick to it properly, and then place the patch on the hole and seal it with the bitumen.
Roof leaks should be fixed immediately once they are detected because they can quickly turn into larger problems if left unaddressed. Take necessary precautions to limit damage to your roof, so you can enjoy a peaceful existence and maintain the value of your home.
Physical fitness is important for maintaining a healthy body, especially for children who are in their developmental stages of growth. Students need to balance their activities to include not just academics, but physical fitness as well. When they are physically active, children have healthier, more vibrant bodies and minds, which helps them perform better in school.
The U.S. Department of Education is awarding PEP grants to various schools all over the country to be used for physical fitness programs. The PEP grants will be used by schools to either start or improve their physical education programs from kindergarten to the 12th grade.
There are about 67 grants worth more than $33 million that have already been awarded by the Department of Education. The grants can be used to add educational programs on nutrition and healthy lifestyles, as well as on the enhancement of equipment for physical fitness.
Four schools in Oklahoma have been chosen to receive these PEP grants. Keys Public Schools was awarded more than $607,000, and Checotah Public Schools received $450,000. Putnam City Schools and Schools for Healthy Lifestyles in Oklahoma City also received grants.
A sunroom usually consists mostly of glass to offer maximum exposure to the sun from the comfort of the indoors. There are number of different types of sunrooms to choose from, and it can be one of the most comfortable rooms in your house if installed properly.
The style of your sunroom should depend on a variety of factors, including what you’re planning on using the room for, the climate of your geographic location, and your budget for construction. If you are planning to use the sunroom as a way to expand the living space of your home, then you will probably want to invest in a four season or all season sunroom, which provides a comfortable environment all year round.
One of the main benefits of a four season sunroom is the ability to enjoy light during any season. It has well-insulated walls and windows, so you can utilize the room all year long, even during the cold winter months. You are able to receive the natural light that is good for your health without compromising your comfort.
These types of sunrooms are generally more expensive, however, because they must be connected to your existing heating and cooling systems. When you construct this kind of sunroom, opt for the highest grade of insulation and window materials available, so that it is as energy efficient as possible. In other words, if you are going to do it, do it well.
The great thing about sunrooms is that the installation process is not complicated. They only take a few weeks to build and can be be built to complement the architectural style of your home.

Basements are often used by most homeowners as storage space to help keep their unused things safe and undamaged. However, when they are not properly maintained, basements can actually cause more harm than good. Basements can tend to collect moisture, which can be damaging to many materials; as a result, many people use dehumidifiers as a way to reduce the moisture levels in their basements.
Installing a dehumidifier in your basement will help remove excessive moisture that causes a lot of basement problems, such as window condensation, musty odors, and mold growth, which can cause serious health issues. Here are some tips to determine which dehumidifier will best serve your needs:
Consider the size. The size of dehumidifier depends on the type of moisture problem in your basement. Even small basements may need medium sized units if there is a large leak. There are small, medium and large models capable of carrying as much as 75 pints of moisture.
Look for a dehumidifier that can operate in cold temperatures. Different dehumidifiers are designed to function under different conditions. If you plan to operate the dehumidifier in the basement, opt for one that won’t freeze in the excessive cold, as that could damage or break the unit, which would leave you with repair or replacement costs.
Pick a basement dehumidifier that has an auto turn-on feature. Power failures can happen regularly, even if only for a split second, and you don’t want to have to go down to the basement to manually switch on the dehumidifier every time that happens. Some dehumidifiers also have the ability to sense relative humidity levels and can automatically turn on and off as needed.
Find out how much noise the unit will make. A dehumidifier can be very noisy when it is working. If you don’t have the ability to close off your basement from the rest of the house, you should definitely consider purchasing a quieter unit option.
Make sure that the humidifier has Energy Star ratings for power efficiency. This will help you cut down on its power consumption without compromising its efficiency and will save you money on your electricity bill as a result.
Not only will a dehumidifier help prevent damage to your interior decor and stored belongings, but it will also help improve your family’s general health and wellness by preventing harmful mold from growing.
