The Salvation Army is a non-profit organization that provides support and services to families and individuals in need. The services they offer include senior programs, spiritual care, night shelters, disaster response, and feeding the hungry.
To further support their cause of providing better resources to those in need and generating more food resources for their programs, the Salvation Army Central Oklahoma is setting up a community garden, where various organizations and groups can adopt a garden plot to maintain. The community garden will include fruit and nut trees as well as vegetation. If expanded, the garden will also ultimately include the management of beehives. Construction is set to begin today, and about 20 garden plots will be built.
The Salvation Army will move to the Center of Hope in September. Organizations or groups adopting a garden plot will be in charge of watering and weeding, as well as collecting the produce. Produce will be used at the Salvation Army’s Red Shield Kitchen and the Client Choice Pantry.
