Proper hygiene is an important lesson for kids to learn as early as possible. It is crucial for them to know how to properly take care of themselves so they can prevent triggers of illnesses in their bodies. When kids learn how to keep themselves clean, there will be reduced chances of them getting sick and being absent from school.
The Oklahoma Dental Association will be launching its second Back to School with a Healthy Smile program to encourage kids to keep their teeth clean all year round. Proper dental hygiene contributes to better health and can eliminate oral problems resulting to eating and sleeping disorders. If children are taught to brush properly and keep their teeth clean, they will have less dental decays to worry about.
The Back to School with a Healthy Smile program offers free dental screenings for all children in the elementary schools in Oklahoma. The screenings will be available within the week starting on Monday, Sept. 8th.
Several volunteer dentists will be available to conduct proper screenings to kids. Dentists will be rotated in different schedules.
The program is limited only to dental checkups and does not include professional cleaning. However, the association hopes to make parents aware of their children’s oral hygiene and to encourage them to help kids properly take care of their teeth.
