Oklahoma City Government Honors Leadership OKC and Plaza District Association for City Beautification

A beautiful city drives more visitors, investors, and long-term residents into a community. Lovely landscaping, greenery, and cultural and artistic displays are just a few of the things that increase overall tourism ratings, growth, and development.

Each year, the City of Oklahoma and the Oklahoma City Arts Commission honor the contributions of different organizations and individuals who have offered a significant contribution to the beautification of the city.  This year, the Curtis A. Schwartz Cityscape Award has been given to Leadership Oklahoma City and the Plaza District Association for their contributions to the aesthetic improvement of the city.

The Oklahoma City Arts Commission created the Cityscape Award in 1983 to honor those who have contributed to the aesthetic enhancement of the city. These contributions can be in  the form of landscaping, unique architecture, and art displays located in public areas. In 1985, the award name was changed to the Curtis A. Schwartz Cityscape Award in honor of longtime art advocate Curtis A. Schwartz.

Leadership Oklahoma City donated a 25-ft steel and aluminum sculpture to Oklahoma City. Created by Owen Morrel, the Compass Rose is worth $400,000 and resides in the Boathouse District. The Plaza District Association revived the Plaza District and increased it to a 96.4%
